The other thing that they didn't put in was "codfishing"!

We could organize an event and publicize it through GS and other forums. We don't have to do something as big as Hybridfest but something more like the Prius Marathon. It would make sense to me to do a non-hybrid to get the point across that you don't need a shiny new hybrid to get good mileage.

How about a 14 YO honda with 400k miles that gets driven by a team of drivers for over 1000 miles on a single tank of gas. I wonder where we could find such a car?

Or we could drive a Firefly for 1600km across Canada on a single tank of gas.

I would volunteer the VX but it is too boring cause I don't have the fancy wheel skirts.:p

It's a pity there's no one in the NH/VT area or we could pimp around next year with this idea. I'm too far from everyone!

However, a civicy marathon thing would be great, possibly a competition of sorts, though small, to spur things along.

Dan, do you know who coined the term "hypermiling"? It showed up in the Toronto Star today (bullet-list of the tips from this week's Washington Post article). I wonder if it's breaking into the public lexicon...

Someone registered hypermiling.com this week too.

SVOboy 08-12-2006 05:29 PM

It was wayne, wasn't it?

MetroMPG 08-12-2006 05:41 PM

The coiner, or the registering person? (Wayne's name isn't on the registration.)

Also, it doesn't really work for metric countries: hyperkilometering doesn't roll off the tongue, eh? :p
