Stumbled on this site while searching around on the internet lately.
Very interesting with lots of good info.
I have a 1993 Honda civic CX. Originally wanted a Vx but could not find one in my area. The car was my beater up until October of last year. When the Cx motor threw a rod at 50mph cruising down the road.

So i swaped in a d15b vtec-e from japan. Which is equal to a d15z1 one here which comes in a VX. Then my main goal became FE.

Have done lots of weight reduction mods to the car. Currently running 14" HX wheels painted white.
The car is lowered. And now thanks to this site i was inspired to do a grill block.

Since the paint on my front bumper was already chipping and cracking, i decided to make a cover to it.
There is no slot for the radiator but i have had no problems.

Anyways, I have lots of plans for the car. And i am glad there is a site like this to learn from.

Nicely done, that's one hell of a bumper block off there. How much do you have it lowered?

Ha, now I know what my would look like if I painted it white! Not bad at all. It sounds like we have the same mechanicals also. You should be getting 70's on the highway if you can stand to drive 55. :D

The car is lowerd 2 1/2 inches with Skunk2 springs. I plan to get coilovers and lower it further. But i have alignment issues i need to work out.
I am running falken ze512 tires, which i originally planned to use for AutoX. But now that my goal has changed, Im trying to learn more about LRR tires and eventually buy some.


I would love to get 70mpg on the highway. I see that you are pulling that off.

I still have a lot to do. When i did the swap, the CX doesnt come with an EGR. So i am in need of an EGR solenoid so that i can get that all hooked up. Plus my oxygen sensor is bad. So Im throwing a "lean" code on the ecu.

Im thinking this could be related to the EGR not being hooked up. But i will see when i work that out. If not then i guess ill have to dish out the $$$$ for a new 5 wire :(

Also, i think that since the ECU is throwing this code, its in a safe mode. Probably running richer than it should. So im hoping to see gains in FE when i fix these problems.

Your FE will definately improve when you fix those issues. Dan will chime in with the technical name for the insight LRR tires in a minute, I'm sure, :p

Since you have the HX rims, you can use the 165/65/14 Bridgestone Potenza RE 92's. This is the OEM tire found on the Honda Insight. That particular size of the RE 92 has 40% less rolling resistance than the standard RE 92. You need the exact size listed above to get the LRR benefit.

I doubt you would get 50 MPG in safe mode. My FE saw a very nice inprovement after the $315 5 wire O2 sensor from Autozone. SVOboy or Matt can prolly find you one cheaper though.

Once you get the O2 and EGR worked, you will see those 70's on the highway.

I found a site with 165/65/14 Bridgestone Potenza RE 92's for $54 each, is that usually what they run?

Also, i have a questiona bout the scan gauge? I see that a lot of people are running it. I had read somewhere that they only worked on OBD2 cars?

That's the case, SuperMID is your friend!

I got my RE 92's for $55 each at tirerack.com so $54 sounds good to me. Yes, I have the SuperMID and would highly recommend it. Matt will be selling them soon. See my garage for a picture.
