Hybrid goes up in smoke.

Happened to catch this on TN.

Yes there was a fire. Yes there were pic's. Someone removed all of the text without my permission. I am in the process of contacting TN to find out why this happened. There might be some legalities involved.

My wife, son and I was returning from Disneyland when our Brand New 07 Hybrid gave us a check VSC warning and then caught on fire. We were barely able to get out in time. It was a very strang and scary expereince. I am very concerned as to why it happened.

I am surprised that the posts were removed but they did go into specifics about what happened. Somone may be catching heat.

Today it was annouced that it IS a Manuf. default.

Edit- The original posting was removed, and now the pics are in the gallery (I'm guessing cache) but not in the OP's own folder, which is weird, probably moved 'em. I grabbed all three pics just in case, and a few screenshots of the thread. Seems like some admin on TN really didn't like this post.

The thread title is 2007 Camry Hybrid up in smoke!. The owner of tn is verticalscope.com. Their list of advertisers clearly indicates who 'owns' the site: https://www.verticalscope.com/aboutus/ourclient.html

Toyota is conspicously absent at the moment.

looks like it's been editted even more... the pictures (even though reposted) are now gone.

Care to show us what they look like?

That had better be covered under warranty.

The interesting thing is that the fire started at the front of the car, looks like driver's side. Battery is in the back but I'm pretty sure that you would have a trans w/ hybrid components right about where that fire broke out. (Unlike my Honda, which has an engine installed "backwards" with the intake manifold to the rear and trans to the right.) This would be the first time I have EVER heard of a hybrid catching fire due to a high voltage short, if that is in fact what happened. Bad day for Toyota, no doubt.

Whoops, I posted a link to a comment in the thread, here's the thread. And the other two pics should be here.

Heh... one of the images was replaced by their logo. I hate shady stuff like that.

If you're on that forum feel free to contact that user and let them know that we'll gladly post the pictures and his original post.

Looks like it's a Toyota VSC defect? You'd figure they would've had a recall by now.

Matt Timion 09-14-2006 11:42 AM

Can you imagine how scary it would be to be in that situation?

omgwtfbyobbq 09-14-2006 11:54 AM

I'd rather not since most of my recent driving is with my mom and dog, both of whom can't get out of the car in less than 2-3 minutes. :(
Aside from the depreciation issue, this is another reason not to buy new.

Found something else. Seems like Toyota has some problems with the manufacturing?

schmeep 09-14-2006 07:41 PM

it's ridiculous that they would censor a forum, it ends up looking 10x worse, for the forum host and the manufacturer.
