The Fit is GO!

So I went to Orem, UT today to visit a client of ours. I saw on AutoTrader last night that the Honda Dealership in Orem had a Fit in stock. It was only 5 minutes from where I was, so i drove there.

The Fit that was on Autotrader was already gone. Apparently AutoTrader adds the inventory automatically. This particular Fit was pre-ordered and already sold before it even hit the lot.

So I started talking with the salesman, and wouldn'tyou know it, they had a few Fits coming in in a few weeks.

And one of them was a 5 speed S model and it is silver (it's a cool dark silver). The best part about it is that NO ONE has claimed it yet.

Well, no one until I put down a deposit. Now it's claimed. :)

It should be here within 3-4 weeks. If I don't like it I get my deposit back. If I do like it, the Fit is GO!

Now it's time for me to enter the home stretch of my Civic. I might get a new o2 sensor and do everything I can to get this upto 50mpg in the next few weeks so that some lucky person will buy it to be the ultimate commuter car.

How much do you want to sell your Honda for, and what kinda of miles does it have on it? 50mpg sounds pretty good.

zpiloto 09-18-2006 01:06 PM

Congrats that's way cool.

Silveredwings 09-18-2006 01:22 PM

If the car fits, buy it. ;)

Eh, it's a work in progress, so it would be a perfect car for someone that doesn't mind working on it. I'm hoping to get $2000 for it. Then again, getting it from here to Illinois could be pricey too.

Excellent Choice!

Great choice, my good man.

If it's a work in progress..I'm really not that interested. I need a veh. that's ready to go. I'm not much of a gear head. It would have been a good excuse to take a train west though.

If I knew you better I'd say something pretty mean.

Great to hear Matt. Sometimes things just come together. Maybe this is payback for running a great site about being fiscally responsible. :) You may need to see if fitmpg.com is ready for your autoblog :)

If I knew you better I'd say that being mean about someone buying a car is a waste of energy and pointless.

I was just kidding, I was going to ask why the S? Is the S sport or is it like the del sol s meaning slow?

hehe...

The S and the base model get the same MPG. For the Fit I chose the S b/c it will have a better long term value if I ever need to trade it in, and because I wanted the allow wheels :)

Oh, it has a weird little lip/sideskirt too, so I imagine it has to help with MPG to the skilled.

SVOboy 09-18-2006 08:47 PM

Ah, gotcha. Time for someone to get a SG.

tomauto 09-18-2006 08:51 PM

sg w/usb in october.

rh77 09-18-2006 08:56 PM

Because it looks good, duh...

And because it looks so much better, IMHO. I was concerned that the alloy wheels/tires had a wider patch and larger diameter, which would decrease FE, but the data is still out. But, of the new Hondas, it's the best value and has potential. I've said myself, I'd get a Fit, or a used Civic gasser for the price. If I had a pile of cash in the pantry, I'd go for the HCH -- but it's too expensive. There's nothing wrong with your decision Matt -- new car reliability, better emissions, and standard safety features make it a no-brainer.

I don't think that you will have any problems selling it for 2K. Advertise it for $2,5000 in ksl.com and be sure to note that it has a new engine and paint job.

If you run an ad there, Craigslist, and the Salt Lake Tribune over a weekend, you will easily get $2,500 by the end of the weekend.

philmcneal 09-18-2006 10:14 PM

congrats dude! make sure you let me know how the rpms drop when you shift that thing for FE ;) I'd just want to know hehe.

GasSavers_DaX 09-19-2006 04:37 AM

You must post a picture of your Fit beside your N...it would look way cool!

Congrats and I hope you end up getting it!

Matt Timion 09-19-2006 12:14 PM

BTW, the Fit has an electric power steering pump.

JanGeo 09-19-2006 12:43 PM

It's a pretty small car . . . hope you like it! Guy down the hall just traded in his prius for a toyota hybrid something sedan - no model on it - doesn't fit in the back alley well and only gets 40mpg HA! I just got 44 driving to my home and 48 coming back to the office.
