winter driving
i'm kind of an ametuer when it comes to hypermilling and some other FE techniques. is their a way i can be FE in the winter months?
|
keep warmup time to a minimum. keep and eye on tire pressure too. will change in the cold air. where do you live?
|
mesa az. i keep my pressure at 42psi

- Combine trips if at all possible to reduce the number of warm-up/cool down cycles in a tank.
- Use a block heater. - Consider a WAI/HAI - it may or may not reduce fuel consumption when the car's already at normal operating temp, but it should help it to get there sooner. |
The best way to keep FE high in the winter is to park your car in a heated garage! Drives like a summer day in the dead of winter when it is nice and warm.
|
Resist any temptation to let the car to warm up. Just scrape off the ice/snow and go.

I'me quite fortunate here , I have a heated car house where it is 30C all year round and an engine block heater as well.
I can drive out of my spot at full operating temperature even when its -35C outside. |
You should alow 10 seconds to warm up in cold weather (I can't remember were I heard that). That allows the fluids to move around a bit.
