HF Tranny worth ?$?$
 

I found a guy a couple of hours away from me that is selling an HF tranny but the price is "make an offer". I was thinking that if I could get it for $50 that would be fair. What do you guys think?

Anything I should look for when / if picking it up? Do I need anything else to go with it (tranny bolts etc.) that I should ask him if he has?

He is getting rid of it "because it is an HF". He wants to go fast.

I'd say 50 is fair, try to get mounts if you can, tranny bolts aren't important, but flywheel bolts are, if you can get those. But *shrug*

The tranny dust cover plate thing is different for manuals too.

50 sounds about right. I purchased the Swift 1.3 taller tranny from Project Forkenswift for $38. (I know the owners though ;) )

I paid $40 for my HF tranny with a free HF engine attached to it, I would say that picking up any spare parts he has would be a good idea, spare bolts, mounts, covers, plugs, wires, it's all good to have, spare parts never hurt.

I paid $0 for my HF tranny but dumped $250 into a rebuild! :o

If you can get it for $50, that would be a pretty fair deal. I missed one in San Diego, for $35. I finally was able to get one for free, but it has a chunk missing out of one wall on the transmission, so I am going to have to rebuild/modify the transmission from my car, in order to get the HF gearing.

To verify that it is an HF tranny what should I look for on the tranny? Is it stamped with a certain alpha-numeric code?

What's the HF motor code for 2nd gen CRXs? D15B6?

From what I've read, the only way to verify it's an HF is to check the gear's. If you put the transmission into 5th gear, you can hold one of the output shafts solid, and then turn the main shaft one full revolution. If the output shaft turns about 2/3 of a turn, then you have a D series transmission. If the output shaft turns a full turn, then you have an HF, non-California model. If the output shaft turns more than 2/3, like 3/4, then you most likely have a California HF model.

If the transmission is still in the car, you can check by lifting one of the front wheel's off of the ground, then turn the engine over once, using the main crankshaft pully bolt. You should be able to see how far the wheel turned.
