Toyota diesels
|
Yup, yup. Swapping diesels into newer Toyota pickups is quite the fad. I'd love to drop a 1KZ-TE into my Camry, but halfcuts go for a few grand, and I'd need god knows how many bits and pieces. But it'd be a sweet swap, twice the torque, almost as much horsepower, and I'd probably be able to hit 50+mpg@55mph np.

I have a 1991 Paris-Dakar Toyota HiLux sticker on my toolbox from the Netherlands, cool sticker, get many comments on it. |

yeah, alot of compenies made small diesel trucks, every once in a while there is a JDM low mileage toyota engine on Ebay, they should be an easy swap I would think, if they are anything like the VW diesel engines they would be alot less complecated, other then needing a compatible tranny (engine turns slower), the rest of an older diesel engine tends to be mecanical, insted of electronic, even the fuel pumps, so you just need to bolt the engine in, hook up the throttle cable, starter cable, alternator cable, temp sending unit wire, and the low presure fuel line, and you are ready to go, right?

The TopGear reference to Hilux being the favorite of "fringe elements" the world over was discussed by a friend of mine and I. Why the US military are using Toyota trucks in a lot of areas now Vs. Humvees. |

Size is another matter. A Toyo is about half the size of a Humvee. |

you can alwas have someone drive your diesel down from canada, swap engines, then give up on the canadian car, I don't think they document what vehicle you are driving at alot of the smaller boarder crossings, they don't even alwas look at your passport very closely at some of them.

Probably not, the catch would be when it comes time to getting the truck smogged. In Cali, if you do an engine swap you must have the truck taken for a full inspection to make sure the truck contains all the required smog equipment and meets the smog requirements for the original, in this case, gasoline engine installed. So if I did do a swap, after all the work was said and done, the car could be illegal.
