Trailer question

I am going to need to buy a trailer for longer trips. The trunk in the Fiero just isn?t big enough. I need a trailer that can hold 2 suit cases. I have had some people recommend that I get one of the small trailers people pull behind motorcycles.
What would be the best kind of trailer FE wise? Are there certain ones that would create less drag or assist in aerodynamics?

What about just a small platform that mounts to the trailer hitch, then lash the suitcases to that?

I thought about that as a back up plan.
I would have to relocate the license plate and be careful not to block the tail lights.
I wasn’t sure how far past the bumper the platform could stick out.
The back of my car is always black with dirt, so the suite cases would have to be put in a couple of garbage bags.

You just want people to have a luggage rack because you have one. :D

If you lift up the trunk a little, you could pull a tie down strap or two under the narrow part of the trunk and maybe another going front to back and cinch it all down between your air intakes right behind the window. Pretend you're a hatchback :) Just don't block the air intakes.

I have one of those platforms that fit in the receiver hitch. It works out really well. It is just over 4 feet wide and 20 inches deep. We use it mostly for hauling larger dirty things. I had planned on getting a larger "deck box" or something similar that would fit on it for trips to throw stuff in that to protect them. I hadn’t thought about the license plate issue :0

That would be perfect. I'll have to see if U-Haul sells them.

I talked to a guy who had a TDI, and a motorcycle trailer, he said that of the trailers he's owned, that he really liked the rubber torsion bar suspention, as it acted as a dampener as well, and that with a light trailer like this, that it was important to have that dampening, I think he said mpg decrease was less then 10%
