PNGV Photos
Perhaps many of you have seen this already... it was posted here - but the link no longer works. Luckily, MetroMPG cited his source (I appreciate that) so I did a quick journal search and found the article. Lucky me, it was full text with photos :P
Here they are - with captions. I'd post the entire article, but I don't want to risk loosing this service :) https://www.primitiveengineering.com/gas/clay.jpg One of the two variant shapes, rendered as a one-third-scale clay model, undergoes wind tunnel testing and refinement. A full-size model with features would follow. https://www.primitiveengineering.com/gas/EV1Mule.jpg The EV1 test mule served the engineers as a full-size wind tunnel form with which they could evaluate features drag. The PNGV body shape developed along a parallel path. I say - hooray for duct tape! https://www.primitiveengineering.com/gas/graph.jpg This is a graphical representation of the many details leading to low drag and high style. Tumble home increased as the designers raised the roof. So did the frontal area. https://www.primitiveengineering.com/gas/concept.jpg By wearing its cooling-air intakes on the rear fenders--a benefit that comes with mounting the engine in back--the new shape borrows from sibling EV1's success with low ram air inlet.
