This sounds like a version of the "electrocharger" :

But the electrocharger doesn't claim to work in all cars.

I really like the word "micro" hybrid, so I will be watching for it.

"The hybrid system we are displaying at Taxi '07 represents an excellent fit for New York's stop-and-go traffic," said Jeremy Holt, president of Ricardo US. "Although called a micro hybrid, the benefits can be very significant. Most vehicles can accommodate this system, including taxis. If this technology were applied to all New York City taxis, Ricardo estimates that 10.8 million gallons of gasoline per year could be saved, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 105,000 tons of CO2 per year."
I really believe in retrofitting so that people with "normal" cars but can't afford Hybrids can get in on the action. I went to
https://www.ricardo.com, but I couldn't find any info on it yet.

I followed your link to the micro diesel hybrid Ricardo did in the UK :

Micro-Hybrid Diesel Delivery Van Lowers Fuel Consumption 21%

Ford Motor Company, Ricardo UK, Valeo and Gates have produced a micro-hybrid diesel delivery van that improves fuel consumption improvement by more than 21% in urban delivery drive cycles. The HyTrans vehicle?Europe?s first micro-hybrid diesel delivery van?is the result of 12 months of collaboration between the partners and the UK Department for Transport. ... The HyTrans research vehicle has demonstrated that fuel consumption savings in excess of 20 per cent are achievable based on a real-world urban delivery drive cycle. While more extensive hybridisation may be appropriate to many other duty cycles and applications, the diesel micro-hybrid offers a particularly cost-effective and practical solution for the rapidly expanding urban delivery market sector.
This would *really* save my bacon because of my commute.

Belt hybrid

The company below told me they have sold motors that replaced the alternator.

"Also replacing the alternator with the
brush-less Etek would work. We have done this with the brushed
version."

The brushless allows regen.

I want to turn the engine off so I am not pursuing this direction.

Carlos-
Thanks for the additional info, I did not read past the micro-hybrid part and a peek at the web site.

I would love it so I could spare my clutch and starter from all the EOC work. :p
