We just had the second of two young college girls die this week when they stopped/broke down on a road in western RI and got hit by a tractor trailer truck. When people get tired they just follow the back of another vehicle and don't realize that they are parked or pulled over and then wham!

...expecially when they've been at it for 18 hours and are speedin' on black beauties or something. :(

Too true.

But if I was a rookie cop and I saw that happen, when *I* had signalled the person to pull over, then that would stick with me. Not my fault, but still ...

Question : When a cop pulls someone over, are they trained to wait for a "clear area" to pull the person over?

I ask because I remember being signalled to pull over once in a bad part of the highway. I deliberately drove a bit farther to find a safe place to pull over. I might have even pulled off the freeway even though I was risking looking like a "runner" (can't remember the context right now).
