Update

Tough week for FE in the northwest, winter will not let go. Rain for a few days, of course, but we have had several nights dip below freezing and we had snow today!! Freaky. Should be gone by this afternoon as the sky is clear. The couple of afternoons when the temperature rose up to the 50's the car does roll better. With a couple of commutes on the freeway this week, I have reached the 1/4 tank faster than last tank, estimating mid 30's.

MetroMPG 04-02-2007 02:37 PM

Results for week 3 updated.

Team captains, please have a quick look at your groups' numbers. For future weeks, I'd like each team leader to collect his teams weekly stats to submit to me. I LIKE TO DELEGATE! Will make things a bit easier.

Also, despite what I mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread, I have not been doing cumulative stats for the weekly reports. (Not doing kind of makes each week into its own distinct blank slate mini-competition.) But for the 30 day final, I will be doing cumulative calculations (meaning total distance/total fuel used per member for the 30 days).

That said... the envelope please...

-------------------
RESULTS - Week 3
-------------------

Ending on & including Sunday, April 1/07:

TEAM 1: "OPEC Busters"
Average change in % over EPA: +15.7%

TEAM 2: "Slow Burn"
Average change in % over EPA: +18.5%

TEAM 3: "GasMisers5"
Average change in % over EPA: +55.4%

COZX2's nutty 6 mile journey vaults GasMisers5 into the stratosphere! I have a feeling if more OPEC Busters had reported this week, the race between them and Team Slow Burn would have been tighter.

It all wraps up in one week people!

So you just need everyones numbers on Sunday if they give um to us right?

Was Matt able to make a program to give you team members gaslog fill every week for a double check for official standing results?

Right. Need enough info to calculate gallons/MPG/distance (any 2 of the 3 at minimum).

I've just been checking members' gas logs if they haven't reported in this thread.

basjoos 04-03-2007 03:52 PM

Latest tank
514 miles
7.1 gallons
72.4mpg

repete86 04-03-2007 05:54 PM

New Tank - 325.8 miles 8.355 gallons 38.99 mpg

jwxr7 04-05-2007 04:30 AM

new fill-up, 450.6 miles on 7.378 gallons = 61.07 mpg :) .

MetroMPG 04-05-2007 05:32 AM

Wow! Nice work - especially given the conditions you described in your gas log.

repete86 04-05-2007 06:50 AM

It's been getting really hot out lately, and so far I've resisted the A/C. Plus, the snowbirds are going home, so there's substantially less traffic to get in my way.

SVOboy 04-05-2007 06:52 AM

It's been snowing for a day here, woo april snow. Boo warmth.

CO ZX2 04-05-2007 07:24 AM

Filled yesterday 4/4/07. 541 miles 7.34 gal. 73.7 mpg.

MetroMPG 04-05-2007 08:48 AM

Impressive as always, CO. Yikes.

zpiloto 04-06-2007 09:22 AM

Filled today won't have anymore driving for the week.

373.3 @ 8.6 @ 43.0 MPG. This tank had the LRR tires on it. Team OB coming on strong.

The next tank will be regular 87 octane. No E15 $0.20 a gallon more than the last fill:mad:

BeeUU 04-06-2007 08:10 PM

Top off

Almost broke into the 40's :) Not bad for a "big" car eh?

217.3 miles - 5.49 gallons - 39.6 mpg.

Nearly the best tank ever for the Peug. The only tank that was better was an (un-intentional) alternator-less slow drive up the freeway for 8 hours. :D

Viva la coast

Go team OB!

landspeed 04-07-2007 12:21 PM

'Coche Loco' and 'Peugeot 405' - the two cars keeping me out of the top ten over-EPA :). I will have to improve my MPGs :)

I don't think BeeUU is near his peak it's just a matter of time before I am breathing his GHG's. But I'm not going to make it eazy for him.:)

Go Team OB strong and steady!

GasSavers_Brock 04-07-2007 03:10 PM

Ok here is my fill for the month.

878 miles with 13.336 gallons for 65.84 mpg, my best tank ever. I guess it pays off to drive conservatively the whole tank ;) I wonder what I would get if I drove this way in summer?

zpiloto 04-07-2007 03:13 PM

I guess the Team Captains (TC) need to foward the fill data for each teammate to you now RH77? Since we are at the end of the 28 day cycle do you want the TC to give you from the beginning(03-12) the official fill only data or just this last weeks fill data?

rh77 04-07-2007 04:00 PM

That's correct -- TCs should now forward data to me for processing.

I have the data from previous weeks, unless a fill wasn't reported -- so any new data is requested.

PM, or if E-mail is more convenient, PM for an address.

Once all the data is in, the winners will be announced!

Best of Luck to all...

ELF 04-07-2007 07:01 PM

I dunno if I am too late, but... MPG(US) 33.18
04/06/2007 ... 146 ... 4.4.... reg. gas no eth. diluting the E-15

DRW 04-07-2007 07:21 PM

I just filled up tonight for my best tank ever. 536.2 miles and 11.80 gallons = 45.44 mpg! I never thought I'd be getting such high mpg out of this car. I guess last weeks fill wasn't a fluke after all.

My gaslog is up to date for accurate data collection.

ELF 04-09-2007 04:08 PM

Your doing a excellent job with the Laser DRW.

zpiloto 04-09-2007 04:27 PM

DRW you really are smoking. It would be interesting to see how many tank records have happened since the begining of this thing.

rh77 04-09-2007 05:38 PM

The Results are In!

It's the moment we've all been waiting for: The FE Team Challenge 28-day winners!

In 3rd place....

__________________________________________________ ___
Team Opec Busters with 11.0%

Notable Contributions:
  • Brock with a 28.2% Improvement (3rd overall)
  • lug_nut turned in 144.7% OVER EPA (2nd best in category) and drove 1213 miles on one tank of fuel!
__________________________________________________ ___

In 2nd Place....

Slow Burn at 13.5%

Notable Performance:
  • DRW...2nd place in both categories of % OVER EPA at 114.4% and Improvement at 37.3%

__________________________________________________ ____

In First Place, Grand Champions of the first 28-Days:

The GasMisers5 at 17.2%!
  • CO ZX2 really roped-in First in both %-Over EPA and %-Improved at 196.2% and 38.9% respectively. Amazing!
  • The consistently solid improvement of other members also contributed to the win

__________________________________________________ _____

To EVERYONE: keep up the great work. I honestly can't believe the improvements, tank records, and consistent attention to squeezing that extra distance out of very little fuel. The FE Team Challenge is just that: challenging. For those who didn't have a good month, there's always the next cycle. Personally, I did a calculation of my own, and trust me, you don't want me on your team -- that's for sure! All of you deserve a round of applause. :)

The GasMisers5 -- enjoy your reign as current champs. Update your sigs, or celebrate. You deserve it.

But I must warn all of you -- new teams are joining, and they look fierce!

Good luck on the next round!

The Commish

Woo! Nice results everyone. Hopefully I'll get off my *** and get team honda going, :)

landspeed 04-11-2007 04:18 AM

Latest tank - 469.2 miles, 10.864 US gallons, 43.18 (US) MPG - my best ever tank (and my first tank with the basic aero mods on).

Edit - this tank is 96.3% over EPA :D

I will now see how a 400 mile highway drive does - this will be later on today!

landspeed 04-12-2007 03:03 AM

The above tank was for lots of short (10-mile) journeys, with a couple of 0.4 mile journeys per day too.

Latest tank - today - 422 miles, 9.49 US gallons for 44.46MPG - this was highway driving, and is my best ever tank for this, 8% better than my previous best highway tank.

102% over EPA - the first tank to more then double the EPA :)

2 large attaboys for landspeed. You sure you're not using those big gallons?
Fantastic gains.

SVOboy, if you need a Honda, I can be on your team. My results are not so good, but I drive enough to get the requisite fills, and I have a 4-door in case you need one of those for team honda...

And if you start team honda and exclude me, no prob. I would completely understand.

Filled today (04/13/2007) @ $1.029 a litre. Gas prices are going up and up. I drove 805 kilometres and used 34.620 litres of fuel, so I converted that to 499.1 miles driven and 9.111 gallons used. 54.77 MPG(US).

$35.62 gas bill :p. The lady in front of me had a Dodge Caravan and I overheard the cashier saying $63.00 for her vehicle . I'm so used to my Geo, I forgot what a 'real car' is actually like.

I hate my car, To be more specific, I hate my auto tranny. My last few days I was just flooring my car because I was sick of trying to get the best mpg. I was hoping the engine would blow up so I could go get a different car. No such luck:cool: My mileage wasn't that bad considering.

I've noticed this on Taurii and Sables: if you're moving along in Drive and shift to Neutral, does the engine rev-up to 3000 RPM and slowly tach back down? I tried hypermiling some rental Tauruses and Neutral-on-the-move just freaked it out.

Good luck on blowing up the Duratecs -- the "Vulcan"/non DOHC was much more prone to giving it up.

I wouldn't get discouraged -- the FETC is based on improvement over a long cycle. If it's just crappy mileage you're worried about, a car with a functioning engine has a better trade-in value :p

4/13/2007 634 miles, 8.9 gal, 71.2mpg, $2.48/gal

SG 150 miles@40.0 I think it's a little conservative. The cold snap got me.
