Lowering and Side Skirts
Hey guys! Now that the weather has warmed up, I plan on doing some more mods. Think I'll start with lowering the Saturn a bit, I will use temporary spring clamping to check the the ride height clearance and any FE improvement.
I also remembering seeing something on here about using rubber side skirts, though I couldn't find anything using search (not true, I found too much to sift through at the moment). Has anyone used these? Basically just rubber strips, the length of the sill-plate maybe 2" high or so. Probably will incorporate tire deflectors as well. |
There's a nice front air dam made from vinyl/rubber garden edging in the do-it-yourself section. Titled front air dam + belly pan, something like that.
I think it was a Honda Element. Nice detail on some cheap aluminum brackets and stiffeners to keep the material in position. Can't remember if he used the same stuff for side skirts but I'm considering doing a front air dam + side skirts from that material. Plus a partial belly pan addition to what's there OEM on my car. |

How is the temporary spring clamping done? |

You can use 2 per spring to compress it, clamping 2 coils together. Mount them 180 degrees apart for maximum effectiveness. Check for clearance around the spring as well. You will need 8 per car. |
Brucepick, thanks for the compliments. I did not make side skirts, but I am planning on making some. For those I think I will use black Coroplast. But the edging would be good too.

Why not use them, rather than the expense on shorter springs? |

Here's a quick how-to
https://groups.msn.com/MileHighTalon/9frontairdam.msnw It's for a different car, but the instructions are full of good ideas, and the pics help, too. The same ideas can be used to make sideskirts. |
