MkIV VW and Scangauge2

Out of curiosity, as I've noticed some unexpected things happening, does anyone else here own a MkIV Volkswagen and use a scangauge?

First, I have a bad driver's side door lock module (dreaded microswitches), so getting the alarm to arm/disarm etc. is hit or miss. BUT, when the alarm does indeed disarm - my SG turns on. OR, if the alarm didn't disarm - but the comfort control module lets me use the power locks - the SG turns on.

At all times, the key isn't anywhere near the ignition. Does this happen to you?

------

As a related question.... If I turn off my engine, how long do I have until the "current" trip meter resets? At red lights and such - I've been killing the engine (there's some long red lights here). And when I restart and the SG reboots, my "current" trip stats are right where I left them. I just couldn't find anything in the manual so I'm sneaking it in here :p

Trebuchet, after 3 minutes of your SG being asleep it will reset the current trip stats. do you turn key completely off or just shut down engine and then keep key in run position?

Fire a message to Ron at linear-logic.com. He's been quite good at answering queries about the SG.

It's hard to say... There's a point in between "ACC" and "Run" where the engine shuts off, but the electronics (including headlights) stay on. In that position, the SG normally shuts down.

But three minutes is good to know

My biggest gripe about my car is that I can't have the headlights on unless the key is in the "run" position

I might just do that :p I'm not too concerned about it - just curios if there's some goofy wiring problem (or not)
