weight reduction
i had to take my back seat out today to look for my ipod. the thing weighs maybe 10lbs. i couldent belive it i thought it would weigh way more. what is the amount of weight that u guys would consider worth the fe to take out a back seat or anything else inside the car?

Probably almost completely foam :p I'd leave it in - you likely won't notice the difference (unless people are using those seats :p), especially if you do more cruising than traffic driving...

The seat probably absorbs a lot of noise too. I'd leave it.

Do you know why the fuel pump hums?
Because it can't remember the words! Umm, actual relevant content, umm, oh yeah. My Element doesn't have carpet inside, so it seems like there may be a little more noise coming up thru the floor than in a normal car. I am hoping that the belly pan will make it a leeeetle bit quieter. |
thanks guys ill just leave it in

Take the seat belts and other hardware along with the seat and i bet it is more like 50-75lbs total :)
On my metro the seat belt assembly was 25lbs per belt. That and the back seat together was a noticeable increase in acceleration. I just covered the metal with carpet and it was quiet enough for me. Weight reduction helps your mileage any time you accelerate so the more often you accelerate in your normal driving the bigger the benefit. Also the car handles better so you can take a curve faster and the brakes have an easier time slowing the car down. |
