Accord and some BMWs Side View Mirror
Have you guys noticed the shape of the side view mirror (am I saying that right?) on newer Accords and some newer BMWs? I tried to upload some photos but couldn't find small enoguh photos. So please bear with me...
Usually, the front of the mirror is curved into a shape kind of like L or < if you were looking at the DRIVERS side mirror from outside the vehicle. So the bottom edge or maybe the middle pokes out the most. BUT The front of the Accords' mirror, if you look at it from the PASSENGER side, is shaped kind of like 7 with the top edge poking out further than the bottom. Has anyone else seen that? Why do you think they do it? I'm guessing it's to reduce the size and turbulence of the A-pillar vortex? Do you think that it would improve gas mileage? |

Here are two photos. It's hard to see what I'm talking about, though.

yeah my dad has a new accord i figured it was for looks or for aero

i've noticed the odd "upside down" look of BMW mirrors too.
just a guess, but could it be to deflect most of the air down toward the doorpannel, where there's a large smooth surface for it to reattach to, rather than upward into an area when the window surface curves away from the mirror and there's already turbulence from the A pillar? i'm not sure if there's any benefit to that strategy though. |
