His plan was to build side skirts for under $100.
He ended up building these from poly rain gutters, parts cost something like $30-40 before painting.

Definitely worth looking at.
If the x-section of this installation isn't ideal aerodynamically I'm sure one could modify the concept slightly.

Interesting, looks almost like normal, ugly side skirts!

And your point is?

If you don't like the shape,
I'm sure there is a variety of different rain gutter extrusions in the stores.
I thought side skirts for that price plus painting was a good deal.

I was just saying I wouldn't have noticed them as not stock without thinking about it...though I do find the idea in general slightly unappealing/impractical (but then a station wagon would have more ground clearance).

I wonder why the owner got cheap on skirts with those pricey bbs wheels on there...

Dunno about that - good question. I think there are maybe not many/any commercially made aero parts for the Volvo 700/900 cars. I know there's precious little available for the 240 I drive. So I'm looking at home brew stuff myself.

Anyway I do my mods on the cheap so I latched right on to this idea. Still working on my air dam so I'm not ready to do skirts yet. I'll show some pics of air dam when calling it ugly is no longer a split second no-brainer. When calling it ugly is maybe a 10-second judgement call you will see some pics!

What SVOboy means to say is:
Wow, nice wheels! Those side skirts look like factory ones! It's amazing that he could make them so inexpensively!

Don't be afraid. We promise to be nice.

Eh, I used to be a fan of the BBS, but they're too nice for my taste. I do like that the owner made the skirts, I think things like that can be incredibly wasteful if you pay something like 400 dollars for it...

I'm just being over critical today, sorry!

What's a little grouching among friends?

Bill in Houston 05-07-2007 12:03 PM

I haven't seen BBS like that in a coon's age. What a blast from the past...
