Fuel Management gauge?

Has anyone tried using a fuel management gauge for boats? An eng. asked me today if I had thought of using one. Topic was how in the red jelly bean you have to run it down way past E to use it's 10.5 fuel capacity. Last tank was a 2 mile per gallon gain, causing fill up to be early, guessing when you'll run out. With this you can set the capacity of your tank then watch the flow, not the miles. In northern climes winter mpg versus summer can be quite dramatic it seems that this could be a real help? This is a hot link to an EBay item as described.

I think someone made a gas gauge using a DMM and got it very accurate. Might do a search and see if you can find it.
