WTB: Honda Insight

howdy,
my hubby and I are looking to buy a Honda Insight :)
we are located near Ann Arbor, Michigan but are willing to drive 200+ miles. Also we will be heading down to Atlanta the end of June so we will be happy to stop anywhere along I-75.
thanks!

Someone on here just sold one! Oh no! Good luck though.

America's most wanted: The Honda Insight... may the Lord be with you! If you can't find one, i'd recommend a crx hf as an alternative. Insights are getting real tough to find now-a-days.

GasSavers_McGee 05-31-2007 07:14 AM

and to make it more difficult, we want a manual transmission!
I myself have begun the eternal search for a vx, but since my hubby is giving up a audii TT for this car, he wants something a bit fancier ;) (He drove a del sol for a good 8 years...)

Here is my version of GasSavers.org's Most wanted list:
Honda Insight
Toyota Prius
Honda Civic VX
Geo Metro XFi
Honda CRX HF

And here is my version of the Hardest to find models of Cars:
Geo Metro XFi
Honda CRX HF (one that is bone stock)
Honda Civic VX (one that is bone stock)
Honda Insight
Toyota Prius (not real hard to find, just expensive)

Good luck on your Quest for Insight! (I like to play on words)

the insights are out there, we test drove one at a dealer in Ann Arbor yesterday which had been very well taken care of (and of course was sold the second it hit the lot) and then headed down to ohio to see one.
The ohio one wasn't as well taken care of, but the (chrysler) dealer seemed flexible and they were only asking 11,500 for a 2000 with 53K on it!
But we decided to be a bit picky.
But if anyone else in the ohio area wants an insight:

The CVT's are easier to find than the 5spds IMO. The 5spds produce the phenominal mileage.

Expect to pay a premium. Mine sold a little over a month ago and went for quite a bit over bluebook. There were a few variables as to why mine went for so much money but it was on eBay and if I wouldn't of stopped the auction early and sell it to a nice gentleman it would of gone for a lot more than bluebook - I'm talking like $3000 over bluebook. I was scared if someone bought it for that much they'd expect an absolute perfect car. It had some very minor issues, but that really did scare me. I think the new owner is a lurker here, great guy who i staking car of it. Once you get one, be prepared to actually get emotionally attached to an inanimate object. Weird. :p

that's nothing new, I think my hubby loves all his cars...everyone in a different way ;) plus he's always really like the insight :)
we are going to hold out for the 5 spd, so I guess we'll see how it goes!

SVOboy 06-04-2007 05:25 AM

Good luck with holding out! Have you checked craigslist at all?

GasSavers_McGee 06-05-2007 09:25 AM

yup, since I started looking for a civic vx a few months back, I have discovered the wonders of craigslist. (I am currently saving my pennies so when I actually find one I can be the first to jump on it!)
However I have had better luck with vx's on craiglist then insights. I think it's the significant difference in asking price ;)
we have a couple WTBs for the vx and have even listed my hubby's audi on it: https://annarbor.craigslist.org/car/344088982.html
I should probably go post it in the for sale forum - I've been a bit lazy lately.
However the TT did get 31 mpg last fill up, it's happier in the warmer weather, like most cars :)

Insights For Sale

Yesterday I was at a clean-air car show in Pasadena California. I spoke to a gentleman named Clark Thomas who restores Honda Insights. He buys crashed cars as well as ones with serious driveline problems and fixes them. He has a series of parts cars. He has sold a large number of Insights and they typically sell for $8K for a car with roughly 100K miles in good restored condition. On the down side a number of the titles are salvage. He is also a great resource for parts. He knows these cars inside and out.

Here is his contact info:

thanks for the info!
however since the insights were so hard to find and even if he bought one, I was still determined to build a vx hatchback, my hubby picked up a honda s2000 instead.
needless to say, he is very happy with it!
have a good one :)
