2004 Hyundai Elantra

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and spent a few hours last night researching different threads and I must say it's very interesting.

The point of this post is on the way home from a trip my dad and I took yesterday, I decided to see what I could get for gas mileage on the return trip. I wanted to make it as accurate as possible. We filled up the gas tank 100% where it was actually overflowing a tad bit on accident. We drove 120 miles at 60-65mph and about 75% of the trip we were about 4 car lengths behind a tractor trailer. We did have the windows up and the A/C was running consistently the whole time. I got to our destination and immediately went to the gas station and filled up the tank. Again, I got a bit too excited and topped off the tank to where some overflowed. Either way, I got an astounding 46.2MPG. This is VERY high compared to the EPA for this car but I can't find any flaws in my calculations. Any input?

Sounds about right. My car will plug out about 60mpg on a road trip.

Welcome to the site!

Nice. Even with the slight spill, it is hard to say whether you really filled exactly the same, so you figure may be a little high or low. But still, a very good trip.

That sounds about right. Is your car a M/T or auto?

Manual Transmission. In 5th gear it was running around 2800RPM at 65MPH.
