44mpg tercel

Hi everyone, I bought a 97 tercel last summer because gas prices were getting bad. Well this is the best purchase I've made. I went from a grand cherokee that got an average of 18mpg to my tercel that gets 44mpg. I went from spending $300 a month on gas to $80. Now I need some advice on how to get better gas milage on my 2003 kia sedona, it gets about 17mpg on average, does anyone have any ideas?

Nice switch!

What kind of car is the sedona? You can always switch to a honda or toyota, ;)

Welcome to the site!

It's a mini van, need something to carry my wife and three kids.

Oooh, I remember the sedona now...minivans are always tricky. Pick up a scanguage II, you can use it on both the tercel and the sedona to help you learn how to drive more efficiently.

Also, stick around and read some more, especially in the aero forum, lots of good stuff around here.

97tercel -

Welcome to GS! Can you give us details on your Tercel? Manual/Auto, 4 door, hatchback, blah blah blah? It looks like you got the best of the bunch :

Tercel: Fifth Generation 1995-1999

Quote:

All models meet Federal standards for 1997 side-impact protection and offer a four-wheel Anti-lock braking system (ABS) ... The all-new 1.5-liter twin-cam engine provided 93 horsepower and 100 lb/ft of torque - and also greater fuel economy than the previous model. In fact, the 1995 Tercel offered a 13 percent power increase over the previous generation as well as a 15 percent increase in fuel economy.

Great switch. I'll always have a soft spot for Tercel's. My first car was an '88 Tercel hatchback, and it is the best car that I've ever owned.

It's a 5speed manual 2 door coupe 1.5L engine. I use it to comute back and forth to work. It was getting 37-39mpg but after i changed the o2 sensors my mpg jumped to 44.
