Ford to Sell Jaguar, Land Rover

Announced yesterday, Ford is putting Jag and Land Rover up on the block. In Coventry, Jaguar and Land Rover jobs fears. Apparently Land Rover is doing well but despite large investments, Jag risks shutdown. It's so sad. The UK auto makers have been even more decimated than those in the US. Aston Martin went to a consortium of investors. VW got Bently, and BMW got Rolls some time ago. MG is now Chinese-owned. Who knows where these two will end up?

I guess you're not shaken or stirred.

I only have 2 experiences to report with Jags. I drove on in the late 80's, before I even knew anything about luxury cars. I got on the freeway, and stomped on it. The thing suddenly turned into a savage beast that propelled us down the freeway like a rocket, but felt like we were riding on pillows.

I realize that the mind tends to romanticize distant memories, but the next time I drove a Jag almost 2 decades later, I honestly thought I was in a Taurus. It was completely void of any edge, exotic-ness, or mystique.

Look what BMW did for The Mini. Maybe new ownership could add new life to the brand. Not to make a jab at Ford, but selling off Jaguar could possibly be the best thing Ford could do for Jaguar.

When Land Rover was owned by BMW, they gave it a new engine, but soon after Ford bought LR and stole all the styling cues for their Explorers and such. Then the Land Rovers appeared to be searching for new identity, they look like **** now.
