Smooth Underbody

Do any of you guys have DIY Smoother Underbody aero mods?
What materials did you use? How did you attach? What access points should you leave open? And most importantly, how much did it help?

There are a more than a few ideas in this one: https://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=671

ok what is chloroplast? is it like the plastic cardboard lookign stuff?

Gary Palmer 06-13-2007 05:58 PM

Yes, that's the stuff.

I have two concerns about doing this:

1. heat buildup around exhaust elements - probly mitigated by allowing enough airgap.

2. moisture/salt buildup and the resulting corrosion.

I haven't used it, for this, but I had figured that around the exhaust I would have to either use sheet metal, or maybe just only have it come up to about six inches.

Its pretty sturdy. Its made of aluminum around the hot parts. I allowed ventilation around the exhaust. My mileage has been steadily improving since I joined so I couldn't tell you its affect. Mechanics do not like working on my car thats for sure.

Thanks lovemysan, I've added those two to the DIY Container Thread.

Almost right.
If you find some way to incorporate chloroplast into a car, let us know. :D

Your belly pan looks awesome!
So now that its summer, any update on how it performs??

Traffic seems to be getting worse on my commute now that its warm, and I'm feeling pressure to perform well for the FE Challenge!
