Fuel consumption fiat panda
 

Hello....I am new to Fuelly and I have a problem! I bought a new Fiat Panda Active Eco 1.1 and I seem to get very poor mpg!

I have taken it back to the garage numerous times to which they keep telling me there is nothing wrong with it. I am supposed to be getting at leats 42 mpg urban, 68.3 mpg extra urban and 56 combined! The best reading I have had is 35 mpg.

The car has now done nearly 4k miles and I was wondering if anyone out there could help me in thinking these readings are incorrect!

Looking at the Fuelly Fiat Panda page, it does look like your mileage is at the lower end of the spectrum. Seems like people are averaging between 40 and 50 UK MPG. (Make sure you switch to viewing Fuelly in UK units if you haven't already.)

You'll find a few Fiat owners here, but you might have more luck posing this question at a Fiat-specific site like Fiat Forum.

What kind of traffic are you driving in and at what speed ?

Hi thanks for getting back to me, I do all sorts of driving, I did a 130 mile round trip at a steady pace if 60 mph average and still got 35 mpg and when I do round town driving I get the same result! Every fuel check I do I always get the same, 35 mpg. This is why I think there is something wrong as it never alters!

I take it you are meaning 35mpg when filling up and not an indicated MPG on the car's computer ?

35 does seem poor, even for a tight new Panda :-(

Hello, yes when filling up. I am having a nightmare with fiat as they say they don't think anything is wrong with it arghhhhhh :(

Ask them if it's mpg should be beaten by:

a) a 2005 1.2 non eco Panda (56.5 mpg)

b) a 2007 1.4 turbo charged Bravo (44 mpg)

That should give them an enticement to delve deeper !!

Have you checked tyre pressures elebelly80?

Another thing I would reccomend is to get it warm and give it some proper revs. At 4k it will still be tight and engines do need to be given some revs sometimes. I have a 1.2 500 and the best I've had is 53.6 and you should be able to beat that.

One thing I should also mention is that you've only done one fuelup and there is a big margin of error when you're just doing one. The best thing to do is brim the tank to the absolute max and then run it till it needs filling up again and fill it to the brim, then you will get a good idea of what it's actually doing. I suspect that you've filled the tank up to a higher level than you did on the last fuel up which has possibly made things look worse than they are.

Run a few tanks through it and let us know how you go.

Hi maxi, yep tyre pressure is fine and as far as filling the tank, I do it until I can't get another drop in it! I k.ow I have only done 1 fuel up on here but believe me I have done over 20 myself and always get the same result.

The fiat garage called me today and told me they have completed their own fuel test on it and achieved 40 mpg and that is motorway driving and the service manager says that is fine. I am now going to trading standards as I am sure this is wrong.
