Civic Grill Blocks
 

I made full grill blocks for the Civic today.

Use light weight metal sign's to make the uppers and cortex insulation board to make the lowers and 55 MPG tape. The lowers are temp.

I went out this evening to where I did the coast down test. The Civic with the grill blocks coasted just like the Accord. Three runs,,, and got the same numbers as the Accord. Also got 60 MPG for the loop!

Now for the bad. The water temps went way up. I saw them as high as 230F. They seemed to be stable at around 218F. They stay around 200F to 205F for the most part without the blocks.

Here in a bit Im going to go cut a hole in the lower and make another pass on the loop.

I also had a whoops. I killed the battery on the last coast down. Went to refire and nobody was home. Lucky for me I could get the car rolling backwards down the hill I had just coasted up and bump started it in "R".

Maybe some good will come from these grill blocks if I can control the temps.

Seems as though you may have 'found' what you've been looking for to bust through that FE barrier !

Well I cut a hole aprox. .75" x 6" center low in the lower grill block. Water temps dropped 10F and intake air temp shot up to 155F. Whoops,,, Bad hole,,, very bad hole. Damit! And this test loop run only came in at 51.5 mpg. I know it was because of the stupid hit intake air temps.

I will open the hole/slit. up in the morning and see if I can get the intake air temp under control.

Also the outside temp reading was holding at 91F. the snsor is back behind the bumper. It was up as hi as 110F before the hole was cut.

Well at least the lowers were the temporary ones ! Maybe you could run a duct to the air inlet to cool it down a bit - from behind the headlight is usually considered a good choice . Not familiar with the new Civics at all (did test drive one though for ,oh... about 4 hours!...damned nice ride !! )

54 mpg for the day yesterday.
53 mpg for the trip into work this morning.

ITA temps very between 110 and 124. Much too high IMO.
Water temps are running between 207 and 211F.

Have opened the lower up a little more. Will see what the temps do with temps to be in the high 80's to low 90's. Have a razor knief with me.

thats tint looks really good did you do that for fe so you could cut the heat in the car?

Nope

Did it cause I like tint. It is nice that it cuts back on the heat load a small amount. The Huper Optics on the sun roof has real good heat rejection. The rest of it is 3M with so, so numbers. It all meets the laws here in Okiehoma.
