Finally broke 40mpg

Yeah, I know... You'd think that I would have broken 40mpg by now, but it took a road trip (downhill) to Colorado to do it.

The positive note is that I drove 75-80mph the entire way with the A/C on, so I'm certain that I could have gotten much better if I was just to slow down. The construction on I-80 however made it so the last thing I wanted to do was to go slower on the 9.5 hour trip that would normally take 7.5 hours.

Matt, Salt Lake City is 4260 ft. altitude. To travel downhill to Colorado would be quite hard. The few miles where I-80 crosses the corner of Colorado may be the only spot with lower elevation. Denver 5200 ft, where I live 10,000 ft.
Check your mileage when you really go downhill back to Salt Lake.

I am very disappointed. You came all the way to Colorado and never stopped to see me. Do you mind saying where you did go?

I really can't explain the poor mileage on the way back then. Perhaps we were more eager to get home so we sped a bit more than on the way out. I'm also sure the hour of stop and go due to the pointless lane closure (dubbed "construction") didn't help.

We were in CO to visit family in Brighton. We took the I-80 the entire way, which I wouldn't recommend to ANYONE. Wyoming is bare and desolate, but not as bad as Nevada ;)

Highway a/c

Congrats!

The only 40+ tanks I've managed were 100% highway and with the a/c on too (~65 mph).

Nice job.

  Doesn't matter on the "How" ...just that it happened ! Now that the Fit tasted 40mpg , you'll want more . It's an addiction . Gratz!

Congratulations! I was so excited when I got my first 40+ tank in my Fit about 3 months ago. That is really good for those kinds of speeds too. I did a cross country trip when I first got mine and got about 37 MPG doing 75 the whole way.

Hmm, I have hit 40 MPG on my Fit several times driving it fast (70-80) with A/C or windows down.

I am not sure what the kids are doing on FitFreak, but many ***** about 20ish MPG in the car. My all time worst was around 32....

Same thing on Element boards. I get 25 without trying, and they complain about getting 17 "no matter what they try".
