:D Hi Folks,

I'm a new member here. I have a 92' Ford Ranger and I think I am getting poor gas mileage even for a Ford Ranger. I'm only getting about 14 mpg and that sucks !!!!!!!!!! I have checked out some of the average MPG ratings on it. I have to believe that one can get better MPG than 20 in this thing...
I use it as a work vehicle. I have a shell on it with a utility rack. I'm an electrician and need it that way.

First off I know I need a tune up... I'm doing that soon. I'm going to get new tires soon and then running them over-inflated. I need good tires for driving in construction sites. I have had so many nail & screw punctures it's not funny... (any recommendations?) :o

Talk to me ...

Dave

Welcome to GasSavers! Yes, 14 mpg does seem low even for a Ranger.:( I'm going to assume your's is an auto transmision. Coasting in neutral whenever possible will help and getting the tire psi as close to max sidewall as possible will also help. I know of a Ranger that is getting as high as 50 mpg and another getting mid 40's in the Chicago area but they are manual transmissions.

Hi Daveb327 -

I tried to find your truck and I found all sorts of models :

1992 Ford Ranger

Which model do you own? What is your typical driving scenario? Are you mostly on the streets or the highway?

maybe psyshack can imbue you with Ranger-specific knowledge.

As for tires, Long Trail T/A tires are supposed to have low rolling resistance and they look truck-ish. I just got some and like them, but don't really have much to say beyond that.

The EGR valve might be clogged. Wouldn't hurt to clean it. Have fun with those 8 spark plugs.
