Another VX owner joins Gassavers
 

Hello to the Gassavers community!

My name is Adam Mase, age 25. I live in Vancouver, WA and work in Portland OR for an environmental contractor (B.S. Environmental Science).

I have a 1992 Honda Civic VX. It looks pretty much like the other teal VXs on here, so I'm not in any hurry to post pics. I needed to buy another car and used the EPA's site to find those cars with the highest fuel economy. I would have never known about the VX otherwise. Having the VX led me to your site, and the never ending pursuit of higher fuel economy.

I have a lot of work I need to do on my car, but the mileage figures are okay despite this. The first thing will be to give the car a good tune up, and get VX rims back on the car with new LRR tires (who knows why they were taken off?) When I tell people the mileage I get with this car, which pales in comparison to so many others on here, they are amazed of what a non-hybrid car is capable of.

welcome to the site. We can all help eachother diagnose problems for max efficiency. Let me know what you go with for LRR tires.

I have the same kind of ractions from people about gas mileage, I repainted some magentic buissness cards, and stuck vinal stick on lettering on them, sort of a temperary magentic bumper sticker, for a while it's said "47mpg" because that was my average for a long time, I've started to slow down a bit, and turn my engine off at the top of hills over half a mile long, and my last was 52.032mpg, so people are a bit suprized when they ask me if I really get that kind of mileage, and I say "no, it's higher".
I'm not sure either why people remove the stock rims, I kind of like they way they look, altho I am thinking about polishing the serfice, so they are shiny insted of grey paint, but I'm not sure if I want that much attention, but really, it wouldn't take that much to make they look a bit flashier.

Welcome Adam! I joined not that long ago myself with a VX and I recognize your story. You say that there is lots you need to do to your VX and it makes me curious what all you are planning to do.
It's strange that the wheels are gone, but then I have seen quite some souped up hatchbacks with VX wheels and those must come from somewhere.
Anyways, I think we bought our VX's just at the right time. Lately I see more and more people ASKING for a VX and it is only amatter of time before a larger crowd knows about this specific model and it's mileage and then it will probably be even harder to get one. If I see any wheels for sale I will give you a heads up.

For tires, I was thinking about the Sumitomo HTR T4 so I can stay at the stock 165/70/13. They have a max pressure of 51psi. I think consumer reports gave them a high LRR rating.

By lots of work, I meant primarily non-exciting maintenance-type items which have been at the bottom of my priority list for too long. For right now, I don't have any big FE related modifications planned.

Anyone know a good source for the factory repair/service manual?

for a service manual check Ebay, there are a number of people selling discs with PDF files that have the compleat 2,000 or so page shop manaul, the same manual that they pull out from behind the counter when you go to the honda dealer, there is a page that is all information on the civic vx, I think it has a few links to online shop manuals as well, of course to down load one even with highspeed will most likely take a while.
if you want a cheap haynes, then go to an auto parts store, I have one of those as well, and they have some good tips and photos, between that book, and the dealer style book you can figure 99% of the stuff out, the nayns also gives you things like a list of matence that should be done every 5,000, 10,000, 50,000, 90,000 miles, and that can be really nice just as a reminder of things to pay attention to.
