50 MPG Club
 

I was thinking it would be cool to have a 50 MPG Club (also 60 and 70?). If you meet the requirements then you are eligible to get a sticker that displays your membership in the club and advertises this website. The site could sell the sticker to those that qualify to raise money to run the site.

Suggested requirements would be to maintain the mileage for a 90 day period and travel at least 1000 miles during those 90 days. Of course you would have to log all your entries.

What do you think?

i like the idea alot even though i will never get taht high in my car but it would be cool to see outers with it.

I like that idea. I'll take a 70 mpg sticker. Where do I pay?:D At the rate my current tank is going though(82.8-252.0 miles), I may need an 80 soon.

the amount of envy for a 80 mpg tank is over taking me right now

My only reservation is that putting a time limit (90 days) on a minimum number of miles (1000) encourages consumption.

I think if you can get your 90 day average up there that should be enough.

Hockey4mnhs, I think we're in the same boat. Getting double or more of what we have now would be amazing, but darn near impossible in our cars. I wish I could pull 80:( or 60, or 40. For now I'll try for 40, and then when my car dies I'll have the opportunity to significantly increase FE with a metro or something similar!

There are a lot of us in that same boat. I'm almost tempted to ask about a 40MPG club for the FE-challenged automatic transmission drivers among us. :p But at the same time, that's sort of like making it "too easy."

After having watched my SG for a few weeks, I think it might be theoretically possible to get 50MPG on my car. Presuming I kept my top speed down around 35 to 40 (just enough to keep it in top gear) and didn't have to deal with other drivers... neither of which are practical for me over a 90 day period. :) Accounting for more realistic conditions, even 40MPG is going to be a stretch.

But that, my long-term goal of 100% over EPA (44MPG), and the 50MPG Club (if it's the lowest tier) just give me more incentive to try aero mods, engine tweaks, LRR tires, and whatever else I can do to nudge the numbers upwards.

Not to mention getting a more FE vehicle! ;)

I'd love to be a member of the 50MPG Club. I doubt I'll ever make it in this car, but I don't mind it being tantalizingly out of reach. "Else what's a heaven for," as it were. :)

I think the "clubs" and stickers are great ideas!

It would be more fair to all to do it by %EPA, but I do see how it's easier for non-FE enthusiasts to understand 50MPG better than +100EPA. I've been thinking about how to possibly get to 50, and it sure wouldn't be easy. If I do every aeromod and have the road to myself, than maybe someday my technique will be good enough for 50mpg. Even my current gaslog is misleading since that was more ideal roads, but I barely understood the techniques at that point. My short commute just doesn't allow for more than 32mpg runs at the moment. My 30 mile trip I can get 40mpg though. I can go 1.9mi to the post office at 50, but coming back drops the average to 39 :(
