Cheating or no?

Although it sure is a challenge to max out the car's tank and see exactly how far I can get, it takes FOREVER! Im already eager for it to be empty so I can see if I break my record, and I still have about 3/4 of a tank. Do you think it would be cheating if I started calculating half tanks instead of full? This may boost my mpg a teeny bit since I have less time to screw up, but then again, I'll always be about 20 lbs heavier. What do you think:D ?

Hockey4mnhs 08-04-2007 03:57 PM

i dont think it is cheating but i do it that way because i cant afford to fill up my tank.

baddog671 08-04-2007 04:13 PM

Lol, half a tank for me cost 11.16.

My last tank last over 400miles and since I only drive about 10 miles a day, and not every day, it get impatient:)

Hockey4mnhs 08-04-2007 04:43 PM

ill do 100 miles in a day so i fill up so i dont get to many miles on it to fast then i end up dumping 35 bucks in it :(

I can wait if you can. Patience is a virtue in FE.

I try to never go below a quarter tank. If you have an in tank fuel pump fuel is used as a cooling agent for the pump, and it is also not good for the pump to have any cavitation or to be stuck sucking up any nasties that may be lurking at the bottom of the tank. So, I stop at a quarter.

That's one of the reasons I won't go below a quarter tank either. If you can top it off at the same pump, I think you are kosher. I stick with the same station, but I am too busy to wait for the same pump (compromise, compromise).

I am less accurate that most GasSavers from a tank-to-tank POV, so I choose to look at my 90 day average.

Hmm, good thinking on the fuel pump. I've actually always ran it till it's nearly empty and then filled it up for more accurate mpg's. I'll probably start doing around half.

I drove up to my mom's house earlier and put some good miles on the car. Cant wait for the results. I might actually get CO's CD if he's still offering:D 450 on a tank, thats 225 on half a tank, 225/4= 56.25mpg

We'll see, we'll see...

yes this is very true. i run mine about half and then fill up so its under $40 to fill up:thumbdown:

lol 20 gal tanks last way too long. (i fill up once a month) lol i went 386 miles to half a tank... i could get 5 or 600 to a full tank!
