MPG @ 100mph?
So I had to make quick trip to southern maine to pick up a rim the other day before the junkyard closed and so with my cruise control set at 100 MPH and my rpms in 6th gear at 2200 rpm's I got 27MPG.... just curious if I atleast get better mpg at 100mph than some of you guys

Not bad for a 100 mph. i would guess that you do becuase my epa rateing on the highway is 28. Before i would hypermile i was in the 15 range and i would set the cruse at 90 on the way to school.

Your MPG @ 100mpg is 100mpg. :D The engine turning at 2200rpm/100mph in a reasonably aero car is why you get o.k. mileage at those speeds, and I think the reason your car has gearing that tall, and that 1st to fourth shift solenoid iirc, is to avoid the guzzler tax. If you regear while keeping the speed down to ~65-75mph you should be capable of ~40-50mpg highway.

Good catch... ugh... 1-4 skip shift is a pita... I put a resister in there to disable that right off on my car, heeheh. Yeah... my friend did an auto to 6 speed conversion so he had long gears and was at 1500 at 100mph... he got good gas mileage on the interstate... but no nut :P

It was clear road, 100 in a sports car is a little different :P |
100mph is 100mph is 100mph. Your breaking distance is roughly three and a half times more than at 55mph. Just don't hit anything and you'll be fine... :p

Driving 100mph is a good way to kill those of us doing 60mph.

Lol, I once got my metro up to 98mph, dumbest and scariest thing I've ever done.

I've been in a swift going 95mph, that was scary..
I'd bet that camaro has close to if not the best V8 milage on the forum, let alone at 100mph :) Jeff |
