New Hyundai Accent GS 3dr 5spd
Well I finally did it. I decided, since I travel 35-40k per year for work, I needed to invest in a low mileage or new car. After looking around for a while at used cars, I came to the conclusion that an entry level new car was the way to go. I decided on a 2007 Hyundai Accent GS 3dr 5spd. Just got back from the dealership. I will be selling the Xtiva and Stuart and just keeping the Accent and my wife's Escort. I will establish a baseline as soon as possible and driving this vehicle for Team OPEC Busters, instead of the Festiva.
Anyone else on GasSavers driving an Accent? Wondering how I will make out with MPG compared to the EPA ratings. I will add the Accent to my garage as soon as possible. |
My gf has an 05 accent. Personally, I think its a chick-car and the door chime reminds me of Hello Kitty, very annoying indeed. Her's is auto and she has a lead foot, but I think it was EPA at 36 or something...

congrats on the new car! its a 5 speed which is sweet so you will do very well with it.

I have read alot of reviews and some new Accent owners have had problems with getting good mpg until after a few thousand mile 'break in' period. Although Hyundai state that 'No formal break in period is required...however, you can contribute to the economical operation and durability of your Hyundai by observing the following recomendations during the first 1200 miles.' -Don't drive faster than 55mph -While driving, keep your engine speed between 2000 and 4000 rpm -Use moderate acceleration. Don't start quickly or depress the accelerator pedal fully. -For the first 200 miles, try to avoid hard stops -Don't lug the engine. -Wheter going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time. -Don't tow a trailer during the first 1200 miles. Boy, that sure sounds like a break in period/procedure to me :o |

The VW Cabrio is frequently labeled "a chick car." Ask me if I care. It's a neat little vehicle and it's fun to drive. End of story. The "Hello Kitty" thing though, I can see where that might get to ya. :D Quote:
XFi, congrats on your new acquisition! Keep us posted on how it does! Rick |
Hyundai did improve a lot their product over the past year and those litle hatchback remind me of those civic hb 96-98. Also a 5 speed helps a lot for FE strategies. Just drive slow and you will be find. The price is also good. And damn, its a new car also... Congrats for your purschased.
And let us know your MPG, I'm interested. |
Thanks for the kind words Rick Rae and BIBI. I will definately keep everyone updated. I also think is almost reminecient of the Civics.
It's funny, I went into the Ford Dealership (my Father retired from Ford) to purchase a new Focus, and prefered the drive and handling of the Accent. Even with a 3000 rebate on the Ford, I chose the Accent. I think Korean cars have come a long way in the past 10-15 years. I couldn't pass up the 5yr 60k bumper2bumper and the 10yr 100k powertrain. Also, the dealership that I purchased it at (Ciocca Hyundai-Quakertown, Pa) DOUBLES the powertrain warranty (with a $100 ded) to 20years or 200k miles. I couldn't pass that up. I just ordered my ScanGauge II for it. I hope I recieve the ScanGauge II prior to our Disney Trip :) Cautiously Optimistic about the mileage and reliability for the future... |
Wow! A 200k miles warranty on powertrain, that is HUGE, for 100 bucks!

The extra warranty from the dealer was at no additional charge. They are basically covering the engine and trans from 100k to 200k (same coverages as the factory 100k powertrain warranty). The 100.00 is the deductible I would have to pay if the engine or trans etc would need repair/replacement. This covers defective or faluire of parts....not wearing out (say loss of compression due to normal waring of the rings). But is still very valuable to have and helped tip my decision towards the Accent even more. |
Good luck, Im interested to see what your mpg will be so I can compare with the gf's. I haven't seen the new design, so maybe its not a "chick car":D, but I bet it still has that damn door chime, haha...
Rick, nooo, Cabrio's are cool! Beetles on the other hand, haha... |
