Should I remove it?
 

Today I was driving home from work in the Metro and approaching the stop light I heard a metalic thump on the underage of the car. I was like WTF happend now? I was only about 2 miles from the house so I continued the drive and everytime I hit a bump in the road the metalic thump happend again. So, I got home expecting the worst and after laying down behind the car, found out my sway bar mounting brackets fell off. Well, they were still attached to the bar, but rust eventually ate its way through. The ends that attach to the arms are still there, so it pivets and smacks off the arms during bumps.

What would be the negatives of removing this? I have one upfront too and I know the combination of different thicknesses and such can play with the steering causing understeer and oversteer. Keep in mind Im not cornering hard, just dont want to slide off the road one day.

I dont want to go through the hassle of finding new mounts and stuff and welding it all back together, so you think it'll be ok? Maybe it'd lighten it up about 10lbs...

After driving a car with , then without a sway bar - I'd say replace it . Thats me though .

My metro has neither and does just fine. You will have more body roll, but with a front one should not be bad.

I'd drive it a bit and see how it feels. Prolly be OK. :thumbup:

If you remove the rear and leave the front, the car will tend to understeer more, which is usually not a big problem in normal low speed driving...

IMHO, I would spend $15 at jcw.com and get urethane bushings/brackets (I'm going to be doing that anyway). You have a metro which already has too much understeer for good cornering and one of the remedies is to stiffen up the rear bar.

You can take it off for now, but dont throw it out unless you are going to the yard to get a larger rear bar.

Thanks everyone. Im going to remove it tonight becuase I cant be driving it with it hanging down. I'll keep it till I can fix it if I find I need to.

Lol, my car already has more roll than a bakery...

Edit** Just went out for a ride and did some invisible cone weaving and above average cornering. Yes, I do believe that the car is alittle understeered but it is slight. Who knows, I might be making it up in my head. Either way, the car is no more difficult to handle now than before...
