Why does scangauge not calculate MPG while engine off coasting?

By the way, the title is wrong. I meant to ask why it doesn't calculate FE not MPG. Anyways, I've been coasting with engine off more frequently recently and I noticed the scangauge does not calculate FE when the engine is off. Any reason why that is? I also notice that all the gauges will still be working. For example, the gph will be at zero and the MPG will be at 9999 and the MPH will be accurate. It's just that when I go to the trip button and look at FE, there will be no change as I am coasting. Also, the guage will turn off automatically if I am not pushing any button in a few seconds. Does anyone have any answers for me?

On my SG II when engine off coasting, I read the "current trip" to see mpg updates as they accrue. It is not as instant but close. The 9999 reading on the regular instant mpg gauge is normal, you are using no fuel so therefore no instant mpg reading.

Do you have it set to "hybrid" for fuel type ?

Does the Scan Gauge 1 have a "hybrid" mode? I've searched through all the menus but I can't find one.

My SG1 has hybrid.

Also go in and set the update speed to fast.

I already have the speed set to fast. Was the hybrid setting not called hybrid?

It should be under fuel type . More>set up> fuel> type . Select( with < or > )
hybrid> save . pdf owners manual SGI pdf SGII manual

I had actually asked a similar question myself at scangauge's site. The Reply:

Adam,

Yes, as long as the ECU is still on and you are using the HYBRID fuel setting. As long as the ScanGaugeII is awake it accumulates fuel and distance. When the ICE is off, the fuel will not be increasing but, if you are moving the distance will be. This will show up as higher MPG and the total distance and fuel used will be correct.
