Oh, lighten the hell up! People who want to save gas ain't supposed to have a sense of humor? If you read the thread you will see the guy got help, and if it matters, I threw in what little I know. If you wanna see super serious 24/7 turn on CNN or pick up a paper!

I don't think you get where I'm coming from. I don't want to make any drastic changes, I'm just looking for a few more bucks at the pump. It's only to be expected when you get a new toy to go throttle happy on it. 18mpg in the city is dang good tho. It's nice to see luxury cars designing their engines with gas consumption in mind. I wonder if the car doesn't have cylinder shut off when not under load? It is becoming more common.

I'd be curious to know what you can manage on the highway. Keep us updated.

I'm about 99% sure it doesn't have cylinder shut off since it's supercharged the vacuum created at low throttle would really bog it down.

Last night I took it out on the highway for about 10 miles at probably 60-70mph and was averaging 24mpg, which is better than my G20 can do as is. The motor is small on the Infiniti so I have to give it a few thousand RPM's just to maintain that speed, whereas in the Range I think the combination of inertia (5500 lbs w/out driver) and excellent low end torque gives it quite the upper hand!

where's your tach at that 60-70mph? How many liters is the engine?

I would have to double check but I believe its just under 2k. 4.2 L V8

Correction:
2070 RPM @ 70 mph
1775 RPM @ 60 mph

Is Rover still using the old skool Buick design engine? Just wondering, 'cause I like engines, but I'm too lazy to Google.

No, it's a Jaguar motor from the type S but tuned a bit for more torque.

no worries, i've been "blasted" because i'm not convinced global warming is caused mostly by mankind. i agree pollution is a huge issue and do my part to conserve. some views or questions may get unjustly attacked--just shake it off! best of luck in your FE endeavors.
