2001 Hyndai Santa Fe
 

I have been an owner of my car since it was brand new, and was sorely disappointed with the gas mileage. Has anyone had experience getting the mileage up on these? I am currently getting 17 mpg around town, don't drive it hard and fully maintained it on time. ?? Any thoughts?

That's 2TonJellyBean's gaslog. he has a 2007 Santa FE with AWD and 3.3 liter engine. Automatic tranny.

Hi Bobbi... if you don't have a ScanGauge yet, you'll find that it's an invaluable tool. It's taking me a while to learn how to drive economically in the city with a heavy vehicle. Key thing is to get into 5th quickly (about 60% full load on the engine), and coast whenever you can. It's too bad the diesel versions aren't sold here.

Welcome to GS! Everything 2TonJellyBean said is spot-on. I have a friend with an Acura TSX with stickshift. He was complaining that he wasn't getting rated MPG. I lent him my ScanGauge and told him to get into his top gear on the freeway ASAP. One week with the SG and he was able to get rated or better MPG. Another happy camper!
