newbie "94 geo traker now getting over 30mpg

Hi All,

Just introducing my self. I have a "94 tracker 4wd, TBI and was getting about 28 mpg by just driving carefully. I recently had some electrical problems and had to replace my FI fuse with a breaker. Since then I fixed the electrical problem and have been using the breaker for EOC (engine off coasting) I'm now getting over 30 MPG.

Can anyone out there suggest the next move for increased fuel efficiency? A front air dam maybe? fuel additives? Please let me know if maybe there is a list organized by effectiveness or something similar.

Welcome to the board and good job on getting better gas mileage already!

Please be sure to start a gas log and fill out your garage with your car specs. (found in the tabs at the top of the page)

There is a list of modifications and driving techniques on the board that will give you a good heading on which ways to go to achieve better MPG.

Sounds like some great mileage for a tracker. My mom has a 4 dr one and it gets pretty bad mileage, far from 30. I think smoothing out the grill and bumper area with some air dams might help out the tracker a lot. Good luck!

I inflated my tires to 40 psi and just got 32.3 MPG.

Welcome to GS! I've been here over a year and I haven't gotten to that mod yet!! Here's a Suzuki Sidekick that I *think* may be similar to yours :

Added 2 oz. acetone with a new tank of fuel (approx. 10 gal)... Looks promising so far... More later.

More on the acetone

First tank got 32.14 MPG... No appreciable change. Going to do it again 'cause they say the first tank may not show a difference. Got the acetone at Walgreen's. Says it is 100% acetone on the front but lists 2 additives on the back. Go figure. One of the additives is to deter ingestion... so far that part works... I haven't had a sip.
