I just got a brand-spanking new EACV unit from Honda and it DOES pass some air when you blown into it. I play blues harmonica, so I know a bit about blowing. (insert joke here) The current conventional wisdom is that zero air should pass through and that is not so in this case. There isn't a whole lot of air being transmitted, but it clearly does let air pass. So either I got a bum unit or the current line of thinking on them is flawed. It goes on the car tomorrow, so I'll know then if this is the blasted gremlin keeping my idle high.

How much did that sucker cost?

It was just under 150 shipped from an online parts store. I think it was majestic auto parts.

Thanks for the pics. I just took mine off and cleaned it. So if you blow in the hole with the screen on it where does the air come out? The hole next to it?

I added this info to the VX info thread....Thanks for plopping down the money on a new unit dogncatboy. Let us know how it goes once you get that sucker on there.

Its hard to determine exactly where the air is coming out, but if the other hole is covered it seems to find another way out, maybe where the sensor hooks into the harness. I've tried all sorts of things to try to locate the sound of air leaking out, but it seems to shift around as I try to nail it down. I'm thinking that this thing isn't meant to be completely air tight and the air is following the path of least resistance.

Well, I hope it works out Ok for you. I can only tell you that on my 89 Honda wagon it would not idle when it warmed up, it would hunt from 1500 - 0 and back. I blocked off the air inlet hose to the EACV and it idled like it should have. I purchased a used one, at the junkyard and it did not leak any air. When I installed it, the car idled properly. That was my experience, take it for what it's worth. $150, I'd be really ticked if it didn't work.

Why don't you try plugging off the air supply from the intake, temporarily and see if it will idle properly, before you change it out.
