Vx plug wires
 

So what's the deal with these?

1) What makes the vx models so different that they are listed separately from all the other models?

2) I've read a couple posts that state just to ask for the si model since some auto parts have the wrong part number for the vx. These seems to say that there is no diff'.

So.....

Put OEM. Dont put jobber. Same thing for plug cap and rotor.

I usually go OEM but on smartgas.net/lubedev.com it states that NGK wires and plugs are best for fe. ( Point 4 on https://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/ultra5.htm)

As an aside, I see your are schizophrenic in your car fe choices as am I. :P My other car is a Subaru Wrx Sti. For fear of being booed off the boards I won't say what it gets. lol

There is the distinct possibility that the OEM plugs that were first placed on the VX from the factory might have been of a lower Ohmage per foot. Honda did some weird things to the car in order to squeeze every last drop of FE out of it. (insert picture of a VX oozing FE juice here, lol)

Teh problem I ran into personally with a Checker store in my area (Champlin, MN) was that the plug wires they had listed for the VX model with the same ones for the non-VTEC D15B7 (DX) model engine. The problem is that the top part of the plug boot that seats into the valve cover is too big and does not seal. This also keeps the lower part of the boot from making a good seal and connection to the spark plug itself.

In the eParts Catalog from Honda, it shows that all years of the VX and Si take the same plug wires. So that nicks my idea of special plug wires for the VX. It really comes down to less resistance per foot = better electron transfer. So go with what info you find for a wire that is lower resistance, and good reliability. Just be forewarned that going down to a true race style plug (almost 0 resistance per foot) may cause electromagnetic radio interference.

i put on a set off ebay for my vx, they are accell brand, large yellow 8mm and they fit perfect and they were listed for a vx. my gas mileage is fine and i also have oem plugs...

I only use NGK. All others are garbage! Ive spent way to much time picking broken wire boots out of the spark plug hole.
