New to the Group From Iowa
I am from central Iowa and I drive a 1996 Ford Taurus and average 24-25mpg on ethanol . You guys say that ethanol doesn't get as good of mpg as regular . Well, I took your word and I am trying regular. The only problem I have is the cold winters and I was always told that ethanol kept the fuel lines from freezing in really cold weather. So, when winter comes and I am stranded because of a frozen fuel line, I am goin to blame you guys :-)
Just kidding ! I would like to get a scangaugeII in the near fulture if you think it will help me get better gas mileage. Thanks, Raz |
hey raz, howdy from iowa city.
i'm pretty new myself. just put in an order for the scangauge2 myself, i think it'll help. on ethanol you wont get as good of mileage as with gasoline, but your cost per mile may be better with ethanol. |
I live about 45 miles west of you in rural just south of victor exit on I-80.
Please keep me updated on the scangauge and let me know how it works and how long of a shipping time it takes, I assume you got it directly from scangauge or is there a better price that $169 ? Thanks, Raz |
i'd feel better about buying direct for $170, but since i had money sitting in paypal i went for one from an ebay reseller for $160

Welcome to GS!
I do a lot of work up there: Quad Cities (Bettendorf), Iowa City, Des Moines, and Sioux City. Always rollin' through at some point :p Ethanol is a sticky widget. You'll probably gain some FE numbers with regular gasoline, but people use it for different reasons. It depends on your goal. I drove up from KC to Sioux City with a Flex Fuel Monte recently -- had to fuel up in MO, actually -- couldn't find an E-85 station on I-29! Big drop in FE, but the rental probably never saw the stuff before. Best FE to ya with the wagon. I admire the choice over an SUV  RH77 |

Welcome to GS! The ethanol thing makes me think of Ice Road Truckers, where they were putting alcohol in the brake lines to keep them from freezing. CarloSW2 |
