finally broke 40!
I've been trying for months to break 40... finally did today. A 40.81 mpg tank 100% urban driving, 46% above epa city average. Average for last three tanks is 39.3. I was nervous from the moment I realized at half a tank that I had a shot of reaching this. I admit to doing some slowish coasts bordering on rude to those behind me, but, darn, I wanted to break 40. I came close a few tanks ago...so disappointing to hit 39.6!
I think I'm in an mpg sweet spot in Tucson in terms of no need for a/c and the gas isn't altered yet. I'm keeping my tires at 40 but I let them go down during the month. Oil life at 20% so I could probably change it and push it further. Now to go for 45.... |
Nice job! Glad to hear you're having success.

NICE!
i am convinced that the non sport models have a slight advantage with fuel economy because of the tires, but they are rated the same because everything else is the same. i agree with the 3400rpm deal. i actually think it kicks in lower! but man the car is fun to drive for a couple thousand rpm after that... but not for long enough i feel, especially with the way 1st and 2nd gear are space out... i think they are too far but i love how the others are nice and close. either way, i think having the thiner tires definitely helps the fuel economy! |
When I got my record mileage on my VX, I knew at the half way point on the gas gauge that I was going to break my previous FE record and I did.
Are you drafting much on your record run? I |

Congratulations! It feels good to get over "plateaus". CarloSW2 |
nice job! still trying to break 30 here. getting close, but still running the a/c(upper 80s and lower 90s STILL-need a break!)
|
Nice to know that it can be done!
Safe/save and happy motoring! |

I basically follow the ideas I outlined in Urban mpg. I try to switch at 3000 actually, not 3400. I actually think I can do better in city driving than on highway because there are more ways to control things, whereas on highway I basically have to just follow what everyone else is doing. |
con-GRAB-you-lations!
I am trying to break 45, then 50 but I'm not sure it can be done! |
