New Geo Metro and fuel economy enthusiast =)
 

Hey folks

I recently aquired a 3 Cylinder 5 Speed Metro from Craigslist for $300.

I bought it with the intent to learn how to drive a manual on my own car rather then destroying a loved ones car.

Anyway I thought I would junk it as soon as I learned and I ended up getting attached to it.

I drive this thing to work 3 times a week to work now and my other 2 cars the remaining 2 days of the week. I never really cared about fuel savings before but when $3.00 of gas lasted 2 weeks I saw the appeal of a econo box :D I still need to figure out the actual gas mileage on it.

Any way Its a drivers side door away from looking really nice. I gotta order me a gassavers.org sticker too.

Cleaned up the interior good, I went ahead and left the passenger side seat off, I took the radio out because it didnt work while I did that the plastic around it just shattered so I just pulled everything off. It has that stolen look now :p I also took out the side moldings and the particle board that covers the spare. I say it lost a good 40-50 pounds. Every bit counts.

Here are my other 2 vehicles. Both are actually fuel efficient when compared to their class.

The Chevrolet 2500 is a Turbo Diesel and gets about 20 MPG and The Other is a Supercharged Buick Regal and my personal best on a road trip with that car is 33 miles per gallon.

to make the tags : (1) go to the garage, add some entries to your gaslog (how many miles you did, and how much fuel (in US gallons) you had to put into the tank.

Once you have done that, then there is code at the bottom that shows you your fuel economy, and use this code and put it into your signature.

You will need to get your EPA figures to know the % above EPA rating - if you tell us your engine size, year of manufacture, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you this!

The above might not be detailed enough - please ask if there are any problems.

I'd say you got a good deal on your metro:thumbup: . Keep track of your mileage now so you can get a baseline mpg to start from.

Great price for a metro on craigslist. You should check out "coyoteX" he's currently building an XFI mileage monster.

Looks to me like that metro was a great deal as long as it runs good.

Good luck upping your MPG even more.

I've put about 1000 miles on it since I bought it, no check engine lights on and hasnt left me straded yet. Starts up right away each time. I think a lot of metros can be found cheap because little things will add up fast

I want to replace the fuel filter, air filter, oil/oil filter, spark plugs/wires and all that is already gonna be more then $100. Thats already 1/3 the value of this car. The big dent on the driver side door probably kept the cost down too.

Welcomg to GS! Most excellent purchase on your part! I love the idea of removing the front passenger seat. Doesn't it also make the car feel bigger?
