2000 Ford Contour V6

Hi guys,
I'm Jim, new guy and driving aficionado. I'm just starting to appreciate trying to get the most distance traveled for the least amount of petrol.

That 'tour has CEG all over it ! Stick around 35 mpg should be very doable. My 01 Cougar V6 atx hit 38mpg more than once - should be cake with an mtx 'Tour .

The best it has ever done is 30.1 mpg. This car couldn't get 35mpg without a flatbed under it.;) There are a bunch of guys on CEG that claim 36+ with their SVT's. I think they are full of crap, or they have no idea how to figure mileage.

Now come on, You gotta think positive. I didn't think I could get 70mpg out of my car, but I did all summer . If you had an auto I might agree with you, but you have the power to be in any gear you want  . Stick around and you'll be there in no time.

sure you can. Just gotta work at it. FYI, NA high performance cars *can* get insane mileage because without a turbo you have to make the engine as efficient as possible for power. Plus contours are fairly aerodynamic.

ahhhh... thats my problem. ;) I just can't go one tankfull without hearing that duratec hit 7k. It sounds just swell at WOT.
I do drive it hard.
I do like to hit triple digits speeds when time/space/nolaw allows.
But I have done an occasional tank with the so-called "egg under the gas pedal" and the best I have is 30.1 mpg. My car is very well maintained, I mean I've cleaned my intake system six times in eight years! Full removal and soak cleaning, not a fluid flush. My driving habits simply need to change I guess.

I feel your pain. it's hard to stay out of it in a sporty RWD 5-speed like mine.
