Well, you have to be lucky to find one for that money. Would have to be from an individual that isn't aware of the fact that these models are in high demand...Good luck!

Oh wow I figured that I could come across one that was alittle beatup for that money.. oh well I guess Ill have to be really lucky...

Hunt craiglist and be ready to jump if you see one. I've occasionally seen CRX HF's for less then $2K, but unless they are basket cases, they go fast.

Clean VX's in CA (i.e. no rust) can easily go for over $3K.

To really save $, get something like the DX you're looking at and put a VX engine or HF engine in it. It's a project, but you'll end up with a cheap, reliable car. You could probably get a VX engine and HF tranny for around 500 or 600 bucks.

The other advantage of doing so is the higher models of CRX's have a few more perks (clock, better seats, etc)

I saw that alot of people put a HF tranny into a DX and there mileage when into the 40-45MPG range... Perhaps that is what I will do.. If I cant locate a whole HF or VX Model Anyone ever put VX rims on a CRX?

First off I wanted to give you my 2 cents as well. I do think your $1500 range is rather low if you want a really good condition (cosmetic/mechanical) CRX HF that is stock. You'll have to settle for one that is either beat up or has very high miles, or both. You'll have to live with the crap interior or crap exterior unless you dump more money into fixing it up...I had to get nicer wheels and seats to get mine to where I was happy with it.

I looked for months all over the country for a nice stock HF, I personally went to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Washington DC, and Virginia to see and buy mine...unfortunately my commute was so short I wasn't benefiting from it's intended purpose and sold it. But my point is you better be ready to travel for what you want.

Anyway if you're curious to see what condition I had mine up to and what price I sold it you'll find the link to my ad below.

Oh and as soon as I posted it on Craigslist I had a ton of emails on it and sold it within hours to the first person that came out to see it for more than my asking price...just goes to show you how fast they go so be sure to heed others advice here and JUMP on something if you see it. I'm not sure what kind of performance/mpg you'll get with a DX with a HF transmission as I looked into that too but decided there was no beating the original from Honda.

See my ad here: https://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=5338

But for now here's pictures of my old CRX HF with the VX wheels on it and it looked great in my opinon.

Good luck in your search guy!

I paid $2K for my 90 HF with 172K miles on it. It does not look as clean as 70dimer's car does in his photos. It has no rust (from CA) but the interior is pretty thrashed, it needed new axles, brakes, timing belt, etc. After all that though, it has been an incredibally reliable car.

I was more patient, probably could have found one cheaper, but this one popped up on craigslist 15 miles from where I live and that was worth a few hundred to me considering the PIA of having to drive into LA, San Diego, or further, and risk having the thing break down on the way home and eat the savings in towing costs.
