MSD 6A questions

I can buy an MSD 6A with some good spark plug wires through Performance Auto (?) for about 375 bucks. Going to the home site for MSD they list the 6A for about 189 bucks. What am I not seeing that is causing the big difference in price? The plug wire set retails for about 75 bucks or so, by itself.

Profit, I believe, unless the performance store is trying to sell you a 6AL system perhaps?

Markup, packaging, "kit" status. I happened to be in a shop last night with the 6A for around 170 and the 6AL for a little oer 300 IIRC

I just got an email back from MSD, they have no idea why the other company was charging that price. The model was the 6A, not the AL. All I need to install the ignition is a 28 dollar adapter that they sell. A good set of 8 or 8.5 mm plug wires and the total cost should still be less than 300 dollars. I've considered the 6AL but I'm not sure I need a rev limiter.

Factory rev limit is 6250rpms and I'm pretty sure its a fuel cut. Are you going to use the internal coil. MSD sells a piece to convert your distributer cap to an external coil.

I think I'm going to stick with the 6A and use the stock coil for now. It all depends on my tax refund and how much I spend on my motorcycle and new back packing equipment.

I used the MSD 6A with Blaster SS coil on my turbo monster Civic. I ended up cooking igniters (that and cooking coils is sometimes an issues with MSD) and ended up making and installing a trigger adapter circuit to replace the igniter - it worked great.

You will not need the 6AL - extra gadgetry that is unnecessary.
