VX Vs. HX rims...
I have a 92 VX with steelies on it and have had trouble finding the vx wheels.. HX ones are a bit more common.. Will there any real difference in MPG betwwen 13 and 14 inch rims..??
Opinions please.. thanks jim |
with vx rims you can get 155mm wide tires, altho stock tires are 165/70 on the vx, with hx rims the narrowest tires avalible in the US are 165mm wide, altho one of the more commen sizes is what the honda insight uses and are low rolling resistance with a draw back of a shorter wear life.

Yes I've heard that with HX wheels and insight tires on the VX you can gain a couple of MPGs.

FWIW, I went w/ VX rims and got 155/80/13's...I searched for a long time trying to figure out what was the most narrow and tallest aspect ratio tire.
if the HX 14" wheels can get you an even taller gear w/ a 165 wide tire, the gearing difference may outweigh the rolling resistance/aero difference of 10mm (155 vs. 165). https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...cfa87e6aa4.jpg |
If you can afford it, I say go with Insight wheels as they are going to be more aerodinamic, if you are really straped for cash you can even go with the crx HF steel wheels, they are slightly thiner steel, and only 4.5" wide, weighing just over 12 pounds (weighed my own hf wheel on an acurite scale, subtracted the weight of the tire), vx rims are around 9.5lb each and hx rims are around 11.75 pounds I really like light wheels, but spining spokes stir up the air, and that slows you down, this is why I laugh at kids who drop 100's of dollars on big spokes wheels.
