The worst mileage ive been involved with

:( Today we started our trip from Omaha Nebraska to Steamboat springs CO. My dad rented a 08 exspedition for the trip because we dont have anything big enough to carry our whoal family the 11-12 hrs to steam boat. There was not enought cargo room in the back so we had had to put most of the big luggage on the roof in bags. Well long story short 13.4 mpg on the highway! The cc is set at 80mph the whoal way. Im ashamed to be involved but its my ride to a week of skiing.

I wouldn't worry about it. You were car pooling and it's not a daily habit.Personally if I'm not driving, I'm sharing no blame.

How many people were there in the car?

pmistel 02-09-2008 11:11 AM

enjoy it while you can!

On the way home from the Flyers game this afternoon (pitiful) we were caught up behind an accident on the PA Turnpike for at least 30 min of stand-still traffic. My brother idle'd his Civic the ENTIRE TIME! I hinted about shutting 'er off, but to no avail. :(

But yeah, his car, not mine :D

There was five of us in the car. It got as bad as 10.3 on the last leg of the trip in the mountains. We had to take a 100 mile detour because a road was shut down becuase of all the snow. I did get some gas for 2.63 in wyoming.

Yo Jandree, Parkesburg, PA here! seems like there are not too many local people here.

don't worry about the absolute MPG. a friend of mine dirving an 18 wheeler pulled 6.5 mpg the other day.... but he was hauling 79k lbs. 7 people and 400lbs of gear getting 13 mpg isn't all that terrible. I was driving a box truck 2 months ago and was impressed to get 10.5 mpg. was carrying 5-6k lbs doing 75-80 in a drop-cab (shortened blunt nose style) box truck. 13' high 8' wide brick

Like Russel said. 5 people X 13.4 mpg = 67 people-miles per gallon. Sounds efficient to me. Commuting by myself I only get 31 people-miles per gallon. (though I'm constantly working on improving it) City buses get even worse milage, but they can carry 30 people. *That's* efficiency.

kamesama980 02-10-2008 02:50 PM

city busses also have to account for over 130 hp lost to air conditioning in the summer. think about it....ALL glass, door always open, lots of people on board. we were talking about that in my air conditioning tech class the other day and it's just like OMG.
