Anybody had any experience with composite leaf springs? It adds up to a considerable weight savings over steel leaf springs.

who still uses leaf springs??

I was considering this on my Mustang, but not for economy reasons. There are single leaf fiberglass springs that are considerably less weight, but the price is about double if I remember correctly.

I weighed my leafsprings and I think they were about 30lbs each..

I was just looking at this last night in the Summit racing catalog. Seems like a good idea to help the suspension follow the road better due to less unsprung weight. Overall weight loss of these springs will provide minimal MPG gain, but handling could be improved for maintaining more momentum through corners which would be probably the only MPG gain.


The ones Summit has supposedly have an adjustable spring rate - what a great idea! Tune 'em hard with adjustable shocks for the track days, and soften everything up for the commute. Espensiv tho.

how often do you have to fill the air bag suspension? would it be worth it? your springs would be as light as... air... yep, that's bad already.
