vx a/c belt cut?

My A/C stopped working last summer. I have been thinking recently of simply cutting the belt. does anyone know offhand whether this belt turns anything besides the compressor? It looks like the alt is on another belt.
thanks,
James

It only drives the A/C. You could just loosen the tensioner pulley and take it off, real easy to get to.

I removed my a/c compresser as well, because non of it worked, partly because it never got turned on to move make sure the seals were lubed, a/c needs to be used or it leaks, I say remove the belt right now!

Great, I will do that this weekend. As far as removing the compressor, I would love to but worry about all sorts of fluid/refrigerant leaking once the system is open. Is this a problem? I think my car has the new non ozone depleating refrigerant.

It's a good idea to have your a/c flushed with nitrogen, when I pulled mine I stoped at a place that repairs A/C systems on cars, and they said that mine had enough leaks that there was nothing left in it.

if your a/c stopped working, just take the whole system out. i was amazed the whole system weighted more than 40 pounds on my 94 civic when i took it off. its totally worth it, since its free.

I cut the belt at first, drove it for a few months, then took the whole system out.

legally, you need to get the refrigerant vacuumed out by a certified tech and recycled whether you have R12 or R134 or anything else. but then I have no idea where you are or anything :-p

nitrogen purge is a waste since you're just emptying the system, the refrigerant will boil off on it's own at room temp/pressure.
