Hello, everyone. I'm new here, just got referred here from another site. I recently bought a 2008 Yaris, and I like it so much I decided to hit the net to read what others are saying. My new car has 822 miles on it now, and at last fill-up the math says it made 42 mpg. Well, I'm here because someone told me I can find information here to help me maximise what--to me--isalready great fuel economy.

My other vehicle is my work truck, a souped-up 1997 Dodge Cummins 4x4 which gets 16 mpg. Great truck, not a good commuter.

Yep, with the right technique the Yaris can get some really grrrrreat gas mileage, even if you hot rod it you can still get at least 32

So I should try to squeeze a little more out of the Ram? I'm already working on squeezing as much as possible out of my new Yaris: DFCO, higher tire inflation, trying to keep the rpms down to 2500-2800, planning to get a ScanGauge II, using as many of the little techniques as I can, etc. I know I got 47 mpg out of it for a little ways, and it seems to be getting 42 with 'normal' driving and steep long grades and lots of idling, etc. So I hope to boost that number, and I'll let you know.

Any ideas on the Ram? I know the injector pump has been tinkered with; it doesn't have synthetics in it; maybe I should have the fuel turned down and replace every lube in the truck with synthetics. I am running large aggressive tires on it; I need these for the hauling of trailers up steep muddy or snowpacked icy driveways here in the Colorado hills. I know I could put a larger exhaust tube on it. But how much money should I dump into it? Not sure I want to put too much into it.

Maybe drive the Ram only when you have to. As far as mods, I've seen great numbers from members who have done grill blocking and air dams to the lower sections of their trucks. Also search "air tabs."

I would suggest you add your Yaris to the garage and keep track of your progress. Also, you will find that a Scanguage will help you alot in getting the best mileage on your 2008 Yaris. Also get your tire pressure up.

Be real careful with the grill blocking if your doing a lot of towing though, a few mpgs is definately not worth overheating
